If needed, workers can be "leased"

In the last few years, the concept of hiring workers on temporary assignments has become more elastic. Firms can request workers from temporary work agencies for short term contracts, not only in the cases allowed by law and by the collective national labour contract, but also in special situations arising from productive and organisational needs. Temporary workers must be assured an equitable economic and regulatory treatment including similar pay for similar work conducted by other employees of the firm in question.

It is also possible to lease staff from specific personnel administration firms for specific technical or organisational assignments, such as consultancy and assistance in the IT sector, cleaning, janitorial and reception services, transport of people and merchandise, management of libraries, parks, museums, archives and warehouses, marketing and market research, call centres, internal building and construction projects and the installation of electrical and plumbing systems, etc., as well as for the start up of new business in those areas of Italy considered by the European Union to be classified as "Objective 1".
