Part time and job sharing for greater flexibility

Part time work is coming to the fore in Italy. Today, 30% of atypical contracts are for part time work. With the Biagi Reform, more flexible clauses have been allowed as well as the possibility of supplementary work above and beyond what has been agreed in the contract. The term of the contract can also be modified with the worker´s consent, upon agreement of increased payment terms.

Job sharing is another new concept. With the employer´s agreement, two or more workers can cover a single role. Each of them is required to provide the necessary service for the firm, but the workers themselves are free to agree between themselves how they wish to share their responsibilities and how to divide their schedule in order to cover the position according to full time hours.
