Backtracking on sanctions

Italy has also changed track recently with regard to its system of administrative penalties for tax offences. In particular, the principle of personal liability in the application of administrative sanctions, established in 1998, according to which individuals (managers, executives, employees) were held directly accountable for the fiscal irregularities of companies or institutions, has been abolished. Following the latest amendments, individuals will be held responsible only if they personally commit a criminal offence, whereas, for administrative offences, money-penalties and additional penalties will apply solely to companies.
